General Description of Job

                         

As a key member of the Operations Support team, the role involves managing an array of contract outputs varying from infrastructure, safety, security and environment to material preparation in support of the Babcock Electro-Mechanical Training Contract (EMTC). Fundamentals of the role include resolving issues, and meeting routine responsibilities, and accountabilities relating to the management of a range of buildings.

 

Main Tasks

 

  • To be responsible and accountable for the delivery and management of the Building Management functions on behalf of DCTT EMTC in line with Company standards and contractual requirements
  • Continually improve the way they contribute to the business
  • Work in an effective collaborative manner with the Authority and MoD staff, displaying professional behaviours at all times
  • Provide Facilities Management tasks by reporting all faults to ensure that the delegated building(s) are fit for purpose and ensure all rectifications are carried out in a timely manner
  • Provide Health & Safety (H&S) and Security briefs for all new staff, visitors and contractors to the buildings under your responsibility. Act as the focal point for returning visitors and contractors
  • Ensure the cleanliness of buildings and surrounding areas for which you are responsible
  • Work with other departments, business units and nominated representatives to ensure a consistent. Approach is adapted to safety policy, processes, procedures and initiatives
  • Ensure all Health & Safety Logs and Notice Boards are maintained and updated at all times
  • Act as Fire Warden for your designated building and maintain the Fire Safety Log
  • Be First Aid trained and be responsible for the upkeep of First Aid boxes
  • Ensure weekly water flushing of identified water outlets in your buildings upon return to work after a weekend or shutdown period
  • Ensure that all waste is disposed of in accordance with local instructions
  • Provide reports and returns as required by the Logistics Manager
  • Ensure Fire Safety Management Plans are in place and statutory fire drills are adhered to
  • Instigate Health & Safety near miss and accident reports when appropriate or as directed and report through the appropriate mechanisms
  • Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times
  • React to actions generated from Senior Management Safety inspections in line with stated deadlines
  • Develop individual plans to ensure there are no single points of failure and continuous improvement is carried out whilst costs are reduced
  • Maintain Health and Safety logs ready for management audits
  • Act as Safety Warden. Write and review all H&S Risk Assessments relevant to your building(s)
  • Ensure the building, equipment and procedures are compliant with H&S regulations
  • Provide cover for other Building Managers, as and when required, as detailed by the Logistics Manager
  • Issue keys as required
  • Contribute to the energy conservation within the designated building
  • Carry out any other appropriate tasks within your skills and experience and/or area of responsibility, as directed by your Line Manager
  • When directed by the Logistics Manager, provide first line management cover to the team of General Hands and Store persons.

 

Technical Experience and Qualifications

 

Essential

 

  • Experience in fault finding and reporting in a building environment
  • Competent with IT (Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Full UK driving license
  • Experience of working within a facilities management environment
  • Risk Assessment trained
  • First Aid qualified.

 

Desirable

 

  • IOSH Working safely certificate.
  • Fire Awareness trained.

Defence College of Technical Training Electro Mechanical Training (DCTT EMTC) Contract Overview

 

Babcock’s role on the DCTT EMTC contract is to provide best in-class technical training, training support and other functions including media, graphics and equipment support to the Ministry of Defence at both Lyneham and HMS Sultan.

Babcock supports over 700 courses with 180 different types of course to over 5000 students per year. Babcock is also responsible for over 2500 pieces of equipment including weapons, tanks, helicopters, trucks and electrical FELS. For the contract at HMS Sultan, Babcock provides equipment support for cooling towers, dynometers, HP System engines and simulators.
