Mechanical Specialist

About the role

 

We currently have multiple opportunities for Mechanical Specialists to join the team, working on challenging and complex engineering tasks.

 

You will work on HP gas systems, being responsible for routine maintenance inspections, as well as hydraulic systems, and defect investigation and rectification.

 

You will also provide functional and verification testing/checks on bespoke equipment, interrogate and interpret system drawings, be involved with report writing and recording, and you will also work on-board submarines. The majority of your workload will be afloat conducting mechanical engineering and testing, the remainder of working time will be spent completing maintenance recording.

 

This is a great opportunity to work on a unique engineering project within a small specialist team, developing your professional skills and qualifications, and working with various stakeholders interfacing directly with the end user providing specialist advice. Our future work stream is increasing as the team size continues to grow.

 

There is also exciting potential for travel within the UK and overseas in support of operational programmes.

 

What do I need to do the role?

 

You will be qualified in an apprenticeship/qualification within a mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent and have previous experience / knowledge of working on gas systems/pipe work and oxygen systems as well as submarine operations.

 

You will come from a Marine engineering or commercial oil & gas background and possess diving systems knowledge or are a dive technician. You will also have a good knowledge of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW).

 

You will have the ability to work without supervision and in a small team demonstrating excellent communication skills.

 

You will also have the ability to interpret complex drawings, are competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications and can be flexible and adaptable to short notice change.

 

What else do I need to know?

 

This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.
