The Estimating Manager is based within our HMNB Clyde business area.


As the Ministry of Defence’s commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades, and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.  


The role


The difference our new Estimating Manager will make

As an Estimating Manager you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. A great opportunity to become part of the management team within Fleet Programmes, working collaboratively alongside the PMO Manager, playing a key role in the leadership and management of the estimating team. 


Day to day, you’ll manage project controls staff to provide cost management/change management/risk & opportunity management and estimating provision. You’ll ensure adherence to a common set of practices, principles and templates for projects, portfolios, or programmes. This will help you to track project status for all projects, provision of support resources to support projects, and provide advice and guidance to project and programme managers.

Essential experience


  • Extensive recent and relevant experience in a similar environment / business sector.
  • Track record in the management of project controls of varying type and significant complexity: including varying products, services, across all phases of the lifecycle.
  • Awareness of various contracting methodologies (e.g., FIDIC/NEC3/JCT etc.)
  • Full project lifecycle experience from bid phase through to close out.
  • Have expert knowledge of PC toolsets and the integration of these.
  • Competent and experienced in complex estimating processes, Combat Systems and Engineering design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with well-developed presentation, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage and influence both internal & external stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Candidates must demonstrate that they meet and uphold our Purpose and Principles.

Ideally, you will already hold or be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role within a Ministry of Defence facility
