Who we are looking for?

We are looking for an experienced Construction H&S Manager with specific Principal Designer and CDM Adviser experience to lead and support a team of Clerk of Works, in ensuring all construction activities are carried out in a safe and compliant manner

 

What will you be doing?
As a Construction Health & Safety Manager you will ensure that construction work at HM Naval Base Clyde, specifically work delivered via Infrastructure Development, is done so in a safe and planned manner so that the risk of injury and/or accident is mitigated so far as is reasonably practicable. Ensure that the delivery of all Infrastructure Development projects is fully compliant with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and other relevant construction legislation and regulations. You will support the thorough investigation of accidents and incidents to ensure suitable and sufficient steps are taken to ensure there is no reoccurrence. (It should be noted that intention is to manage H&S proactively and avoid accidents).

 

Your Key Responsibilities will include:

•    Develop and lead the implementation and promotion of Construction Health and Safety culture in Infrastructure Development through the provision and development of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
•    Provide all support required to ensure that projects comply with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. This will include performing the duties of Principal Designer.
•    Support the delivery of Contractor Workshops (typically 2 per annum) to ensure that the required H&S standards are met or exceeded by the Supply Chain.
•    Visit Construction Sites to advise on good practice and support Site Controllers and Contractors.
•    Provide pre-works advice and review Contractor Risk Assessments and Method Statements when requested.
•    Coach and advise Site Controllers and Project Officers on industry good practice.
•    Engage with the site Health and Safety Manager on HS& good practice and learning from experience. Act as the Department H&S Champion helping to drive improvements and introducing Industry innovation and good practice.  

 

The experience you’ll bring 
You will need formal training in Occupational Health and Safety, typically to NEBOSH Diploma or BSc/BA Degree Level and a professional accreditation with the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), they must have attained or be working towards Chartered status.

 

We would also like you to have the following:
•    A good knowledge of general engineering principles.
•    The ability to write technical reports which provide analysis, interpretation and root causes of events as well as providing recommendations.
•    The ability to apply this knowledge in a practical and pragmatic way whilst recognising the importance of legal compliance.
•    Have a thorough understanding of legal and statutory frameworks, thorough knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and all delegated and quasi legislation.
•    You will have high levels of communication skills are required in communicating with people at all levels from a variety of backgrounds whether with Infrastructure Development staff, contractors or other site staff as well as management etc.
