In this role, you will:

 

  • Work within the waterfront Naval Architecture team to support and generate structural surveys, including both on-site and office work;
  • Conduct visual inspections and surveys within a variety of submarine compartments and in varying conditions with potential difficulties for access;
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary technical team to provide the information necessary to develop unique solutions to complex structural repair challenges related to submarines;
  • Assess steel and fiberglass submarine structures against relevant codes and standards to determine if repairs are required;
  • Request and integrate findings from Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) reports (including UT, RT, MPI and VT) to categorize structural and weld defects;
  • Compile inspection findings and produce narrative survey reports;
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications for the repair of submarine steel structures;
  • Conduct quality assurance activities on behalf of the technical team to verify completion of key steps in the submarine repair sequence; and
  • Work with the shipyard production personnel and the project management team to expedite work in a timely fashion.

 

The ideal candidate brings:

 

  • A minimum of a College Technologist Diploma in a relevant field and an eligibility to be certified as an AScT by ASTTBC;
  • 4+ years of relevant technical experience;
  • Practical experience working with marine platform systems or steel structures in a marine environment;
  • An attention to detail and a demonstrated ability and aptitude to problem solve technical issues;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong teamwork skills and an ability to effectively work in an environment with frequently changing and competing priorities;
  • Experience working in a fast-paced commercial shipyard environment is an asset;
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
