Principal Systems Engineer
Location: Devonport, Plymouth
Main purpose of role

You will provide technical leadership, Systems Engineering (SE) management, domain knowledge consultancy and produce technical information in support of complex projects, proposals and other opportunities within Mission Systems – Information Systems (MSIS).

Principal Tasks and Responsibilities:

You will provide C5ISR domain knowledge in support of MSIS business delivery and development, including SE support to the development of solutions to customer needs.


This will involve managing technical enquiries through the business acquisition process, taking responsibility for areas of expertise and undertaking the role of Technical Lead for delegated projects, proposals and other opportunities. This comprises leadership of the technical solution specification and delivery across the full systems life cycle. To include selection, tailoring and application of tools and processes to support delivery of projects, proposals and other delegate tasks.


You will also be responsible for the line management of a team of Systems Engineers and Platform Integration Engineers, including responsibility for their task/project allocation, professionalism, training and development and the leadership of project engineering teams, including integration of technical specialists and subcontractors to meet both functional and non-functional requirements, e.g. platform integration, integrated logistics support (ILS), human factors integration (HFI), information assurance (IA) etc.


Required Knowledge, Skills,   Experience and Competences
You will be degree qualified in an appropriate engineering discipline and holds or is capable of achieving a chartered registration with an appropriate engineering institution.

We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:
• Engineering/technical management, preferably in a position responsible for the delivery of equipmbent/system programmes for a MoD customer;
• Delivery of C5ISR systems across the SE life cycle, including an understanding of the CADMID life cycle and its alignment with systems/product life cycles;
• Working knowledge of MoD procurement processes, project delivery practices and technical standards compliance;
• The use of commercial SE and modelling tools is desirable, e.g. DOORS, UML.


Finally, you must possess domain knowledge in one of the following areas:
• Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance;
• Communications Intelligence (COMINT), in particular Communications Electronic Support Measures (CESM);
• Electronic Intelligence (ELINT), in particular Electronic Warfare systems;
• Command and control systems;
• Combat systems;

• The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
