The role
As a Senior Strategic Systems Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Join a dynamic, diverse team with a variety of skillsets that significantly influence our outputs. You'll work with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on strategic systems for in-service submarines, offering a unique opportunity to drive and influence impactful changes within the business.
Day-to-day, you’ll work within the Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) Directorate, in a dynamic and diverse team, ensuring continuous support for our in-service fleet. You'll maintain and enhance submarine operational readiness, collaborate with various teams to tackle technical challenges, and implement strategic improvements.
- Develop Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS) engineering programs, policies, procedures, technologies, equipment, and operations.
- Support tasks from Trident Systems Project Team and Dreadnought Supply Support Teams.
- Collaborate with Babcock SWS Engineering Team and UK SWS partners.
- Act as a Babcock SWS expert, providing advice and facilitating information exchanges.
Please note that this position involves travel/working to each site (Bristol/Plymouth/Faslane) once a month.
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Senior Strategic Systems Engineer#
- Extensive knowledge of Strategic Weapons Systems engineering test and commissioning programs at a supervisory level.
- Experience with Trident Systems.
- Proven track record in supporting and developing SWS engineering programs, policies, procedures, technologies, equipment, and operations.
- Strong communication and customer-facing stakeholder management skills.
Qualifications for the Senior Strategic Systems Engineer
- Foundation degree/BTEC (HNC/HND) in Electronic/Mechanical Engineering.
- Membership or application for membership in a professional engineering body (IET, IMechE), or willingness to pursue this for continuous professional development.
