Excellent opportunity on offer for a Senior EC&I Engineer to join our team at HMNB Devonport, where you will have the chance to work with some highly technical machinery.
The Mechanical Handling Technical Authority within ‘Engineering Services – Facilities Engineering Group’ are responsible for providing both technical support and design consultancy on non-nuclear and nuclear Babcock mechanical handling assets within the Devonport site. The Facilities Engineering Group are currently expanding and this is your opportunity to join us at this exciting time.
Who we are looking for?
We are looking for a Senior EC&I Engineer to join our team in managing the reference design of existing mechanical handing assets across the Devonport site and contributing to the design and specification of new equipment. As a Senior Engineer in the team, you will be comfortable in either producing a new design from your desk or supervising the installation and commissioning of new equipment on a crane. The Mechanical Handling Technical Authority incorporates both Mechanical and EC&I engineers.
What will you be doing?
The role of the Senior Engineer is primarily to provide professional technical assistance and advice to support ongoing operational availability and maintenance of mechanical handling assets. The secondary purpose of the role is in the design function where the focus of activities are on the provision of new, or modification to, crane designs, lifting equipment and systems as well as injection of new capabilities and undertaking life extension activities.
In fulfilling this, the role involves:
• Design development through the whole design lifecycle (requirements development, drawings, calculations, specifications and reports).
• Support to implementation of new designs (Factory acceptance testing, supporting commissioning).
• Maintaining the content and configuration of the reference design documentation of extant assets through-life.
• Specifying replacement equipment/components and supporting the production of configuration documentation for permanent modifications.
• Undertaking asset conditions surveys and producing condition reports / fault-finding on existing assets.
• Periodic reviews of maintenance regimes and activities.
The experience you’ll bring
You will be qualified to degree level in a relevant engineering discipline and have significant experience in the design process and the design / substantiation of engineering systems.
Experience of the below would also be beneficial:
• Experience of cranes/lifting equipment and crane operations or knowledge and experience of other electro-mechanical/hydraulic systems.
• Experience of operating within nuclear or other high-hazard environments.
• Experience in the use of CAD and/or FEA packages.
This position requires someone who has strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and engage effectively with a range of stakeholders at all levels of the business, in order to support the production of new equipment and the ongoing support to existing equipment.
