The role
As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in the Power Distribution & Standby Generation Team, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will hold a lead design role, where the activities are generally focused on the provision of new, or modification to electrical power distribution assets/equipment and their supporting supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
Day to day, you’ll be involved in design projects where you’ll undertake a variety of activities in support of design development and produce design deliverables across the entire design lifecycle (start-up, concept, scheme, detail, and implementation).
Responsibilities as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer include:
- Leading design delivery activities including site visits, non-intrusive surveying electrical equipment and infrastructure and developing design solutions
- Capturing and developing project requirements and engineering delivery plans through stakeholder engagement
- Undertaking optioneering and value engineering activities
- Undertaking electrical calculations in Trimble Amtech and ETAP (Electrical Transient Analyser Program); and producing AutoCAD 2D and 3D design drawings in AutoCAD Revit
- Producing design documentation such as engineering management plans, requirement traceability matrices, technical scope of works, design reports, equipment specifications, installation and commissioning specifications
- Providing support to implementation phase of projects (including witness factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, commissioning, responding to contractor’s technical queries & request for information and responding to technical submissions)
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Senior Electrical Design Engineer:
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining power distribution systems
- A sound appreciation of legislation, regulations and standards that are applicable to electrical systems and equipment
- Experience of developing electrical engineering designs
- A familiarity with recognised design lifecycles
- Proficiency with producing and reviewing electrical engineering drawings and documentation
- Experience with one or more of the following areas: high voltage/low voltage power distribution, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, protection systems, switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, high voltage/low voltage commissioning
Qualifications for the Senior Electrical Design Engineer:
- A degree in an electrical engineering discipline or HNC with significant experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
