The role
As a Permit Controller, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The Permit Team is in the process of expanding its workforce to bolster support for the refit programmes. Consequently, we are actively seeking to recruit additional Permit Controllers who will be entrusted with the vital responsibility of ensuring the safe facilitation of high-risk activities. All Permit Controllers will be trained to obtain Authorised Persons status.
Day to day, you’ll be involved in the following:
- Authorisation and De-confliction: Oversee and authorisation and de-confliction of all Hot Work and Flammable task applications, including Confined Space activities
- Atmospheric Monitoring: Monitor tank/areas atmospheric conditions before, during, and after all Confined Space activities. This includes setting up and maintaining atmospheric monitoring equipment and issuing Personal Air Monitors
- Atmospheric Gas Testing, Flow Readings and Z1 Inspections: Conducting atmospheric gas testing, flow readings and Z1 inspections as part of the safety protocols
- Policy and Regulation Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to company policies, industry regulations, and safe systems of work at all times
- Communication: Adopt regular communication with Project, Industrial Staff, Support Services, and Subcontractors to promote a collaborative and safety focused environment.
In this full-time role, you’ll work onsite at HMNB Devonport for 36 hours per week. The role is a unique hybrid, encompassing both office-based and onboard tasks, requiring a diverse skill set and adaptability. You’ll be contracted to commit to a continental shift rota which will include a shift allowance.
Essential experience of the Permit Controller:
- Safety protocols, regulations, and compliance
- Strong ship layout understanding - including tanks
- Hot work, flammable materials processes
Qualifications for the Permit Controller:
- Educated to grade C or above in GCSE/National 5 (or equivalent) in both Math & English
The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
