About the Role

We currently have an opportunity for an Electrical Team Leader to join our EHJ Maintenance team at Babcock.

You will manage a team of Electrical Fitters who are responsible for maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of a range of electrical / C&I equipment within the Explosives Handling Jetty at RNAD Coulport. This will include high voltage sub stations, machinery cooling systems, lighting, ventilation and a wide scope of other electrical systems.

Specific responsibilities will include managing the output of the team within contracted KPI limits and in accordance with due process and applicable legislation. As a Team Leader, you will be tasked with motivating, mentoring and coaching team members and with providing all aspects of line managerial support. The Electrical Team Leader will take on the role of ‘High Voltage’ and ‘Confined Spaces’ Authorised Person in line with JSP 375 requirements.

Please note that during certain operational periods you will be required to work 12.5 hour shifts (Day and Night) in order to support continuous 24/7 cover for the facility. You should also be comfortable working at height.

The anticipated salary for this role will be £35-39k per annum depending on experience, plus overtime and shift allowance for night work.

What do I need to do the role?

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate previous management or supervisory experience gained within engineering environments. Holding a HNC-level qualification in a related discipline and / or a recognised management qualification would be an advantage, but is not essential. Key areas of competency we require will include:

  • SVQ Level 3 Electrical or Electronic Engineering / completed Modern apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience of working with industrial C&I equipment including PLCs / motor drives
  • Experience of working within Health & Safety focussed environments;  knowledge of Safe Systems of Work
  • Capable organiser, able to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team-building skills
  • Previous High Voltage experience desired but not essential as training will be given


What else do I need to know?


This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland. We are well placed for commuter links to Glasgow and the wider region, with easy access for car and public transport.


Due to the current climate we expect this role to be a blend of onsite and home based working for the foreseeable future.


You should hold or have the ability to obtain full SC clearance
