Assistant Project Manager

We’re looking for someone dynamic, ambitious and eager to make a real impact in delivering the highly complex and strategic Dreadnought Submarine programme within Babcock Mission Systems.
This is an exciting opportunity to enter a growing business with an international footprint, where we undertake whole life cycle management in designing, procuring and manufacturing major complex systems for a worldwide customer base.  


The difference you will make:
The Mission Systems project management team of about 160 people helps teams deliver their goals, whether they are customer contracts or business improvements. This award-winning team successfully delivers complex projects operating right across different functions, and at the heart of delivery teams working with customers. 

You’ll be a key member of the Dreadnought delivery team, having undergone a significant business transformation and being part of a major programme of national importance. 

As part of this you’ll play a key project controls role in a growing team with a lean delivery focus, in delivering essential oversight of a major complex portfolio of high integrity weapon systems for the UK’s new Dreadnought class Nuclear Submarines.

You’ll work with senior management, build cross-business partnerships and be responsible for:
•    Maintaining a fully resourced project level schedule (Level 2- Level 4). Ensuring schedule reflects Risk and Supply Chain Events. 
•    Production of Time and Cost data, monthly reconciliation/forecast, maintaining tracking with lower level project schedules and data. Reporting on EVM and SRA.
•    Ensure Schedule is costed and is aligned to IFS view of budget and forecast.
•    Support IBP by maintaining view on resource forecast across project scope. 
•    Ensuring alignment of IFS with Project Schedule (CBS->WBS). 
•    Facilitate Risk Review and maintain Risk Register and risk reporting as required.
•    Under guidance from Programme Level Project Controller - follow guidance in Project Controls Handbook and seek to improve process, method and tools.
•    Support rolling month forecasting and reconciliation of spend from IFS against schedule.
•    Maintain control account administration, tracking variances and requests for budget re-allocation and risk spend (though no approval authority).
•    Generate reports on demand from Programme or Project leadership.
•    Ensure the project management plan, risk and opportunity management plan and other plans as directed are being adhered to. Report any variances to Project Manager or Delivery Team Lead.

•    Use of Primavera P6 / Microsoft Project, in creating and maintaining resourced schedules for complex engineering programmes in design and manufacture phase
•    Development and maintenance of delivery team budgets and baselines, owning cost control and baseline change management
•    Driving Risk and Opportunity management in complex programmes, progressing mitigations to closure
•    Adherence to governance requirements in maintaining scope control over the contracted baseline


•    Lifecycle management, phase and design review experience 
•    Complex planning and control methods and procedures
