An excellent opportunity for a Principal Quality Business Partner has opened up within our Quality team.  The Quality team works across the DST business, actively supporting projects and ensuring that products get to our customers to the highest standards. You will champion high performance, challenge the status quo and actively propose new ideas on how we can make things better. In this role, you will provide Quality leadership and direction to the Head of Business, Design and Build acting as a strategic and planning partner. You will work along with the Programmes team to support growth of the business.

Responsibilities

 

Typical tasks and responsibilities include:

 

  • Developing and leading the Quality strategy for Design and Build, gaining agreement and sponsorship by their line management and Head of Business.
  • Leading the delivery of the Assurance Programme across the Build business including review and approval of Quality Plans.
  • Working closely with the Delivery Team and others to ensure business success and to resolve quality and technical issues.
  • Providing coaching and support on quality related matters at all levels across the Business.
  • Ensuring compliance with Defence Systems Technology (DST) Quality procedures and processes and with DST Quality Management System, undertaking internal audit and coordinating management review.
  • Developing and leading the Continuous Improvement programme, supporting the development of an improving Quality culture.
  • Identifying and resolving all customer-focused issues or under-performance.
  • Supporting the business on requirements to meet new Standards relevant to the business, particularly those specific to new projects and activities.
  • Guidance and training on appropriate Quality tools and methods to ensure application.
  • Working closely with the Quality function, DST and ensuring alignment of Business and Quality functional objectives.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Recognised professional qualification and proven experience in the application of Continuous Improvement (Lean) methods.
  • DSP Submarine Quality Assurance Course.
  • Chartered Member of the CQI.
  • Lead Assessor Course (UKAS Accredited).

 

Experience

 

  • Experience of leading change management and improvement programmes.
  • Experience in leading technical multi-functional teams.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, working laterally and vertically to influence and guide direction.
  • Some experience of manufacturing processes including, welding, machining, NDT, pressure testing and mechanical / electrical assembly.
  • Experience in interpreting Voice of the Customer and raising customer profile.
  • Some knowledge of manufacturing processes including welding, machining, NDT, pressure testing and electrical assembly.
  • Ability to review technical documentation and interpret engineering drawings, procedures and specifications.

 

Skills and attributes

 

  • Good analytical skills and proficient with Microsoft Office. 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. 
  • Self-motivated, and can work within a group or individually.
  • Methodical with excellent attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills, used to working to meet tight deadlines.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Defence Systems Technology (DST) forms a critical, and growing part of Babcock’s Marine organisation.   • This role is based at our Ashton House, Bristol site.  Bristol is a vibrant city in south west England with a wide range of attractions, landmarks, events and shopping. It has excellent transport links and is only 1.5 hours from London by train.
  • Travel: UK and potential to travel abroad as required
  • The successful candidate must be able to achieve the appropriate security clearance level for this role.
