The difference our new Principal Marine Systems Engineer will make


As a Principal Marine Systems Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be working closely with the Defence Equipment and Support organisation in the Ministry of Defence, and the Royal Navy to provide the Systems Technical Authority for the Marine Engineering systems on both the Royal Navy’s T45 Destroyers and Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carriers, which are essential in supporting both front line operations and the through life sustainment of the systems.
Day-to-day, you will be responsible for ensuring a through life perspective is taken in the management of the Systems and Equipment, overcoming engineering challenges and applying focus to maintain and improve system safety and performance. Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Platform Systems, you will provide authoritative advice and recommendations for a range of Platform Systems the scope of which includes HP and LP air and saltwater systems, fire detection and protection systems, navigation and general lighting systems.


You will provide proactive technical support to our customer, working collaboratively with other stakeholders across the MoD, Royal Navy and industry. You will provide authoritative recommendations for design intent maintenance and update, including but not limited to safety case, hazard, design baseline, obsolescence, maintenance and technical documentation management, performance improvement, training and design change.


Through consideration of specifications, standards, legislation and knowledge, you will apply appropriate governance to Technical Authority (TA) outputs. Ensure engineering and safety risks are communicated and managed appropriately. Provide direction and guidance within the TA and Technical Services (TS) team supporting Platform Systems TA outputs. Lastly, liaise with the Programme Manager and TS team to develop plans for the through life maintenance and update of Systems & Equipment design intent.

Essential experience
You will be a Chartered Engineer, with proven experience in activity associated with integrated systems. 


As part of the Systems Technical Authority, you will contribute to setting and upholding engineering standards and maintaining a focus on the Safe to Operate status of marine systems. As an effective problem solver, you can balance theory and reality to find pragmatic solutions and trade the competing demands of urgent reactive support with the progression of through life improvements.


You will have knowledge of marine systems; it is desirable that your knowledge relates specifically to platform systems outlined above. Your system engineering experience will have been gained via either a design and development, or in-service use/ support environment. You will have experience working across mechanical, electrical, hydraulics and control system domains. 
You must be able to achieve Security Clearance.
