Make an Impact
Here at Babcock International, we are looking for a driven leader to fill the role of Principle Engineer - Power & Propulsion within our Marine Systems Support Partner (MSSP) organisation.

The difference you can make
Babcock Defence Systems Technology works closely with the MoD’s Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) organisation to support the Royal Navy’s Type 45 destroyers and Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) aircraft carriers. As the Marine Systems Support Partner (MSSP), we provide the Systems Technical Authority for the Marine Engineering systems on both classes of vessel, which are essential in supporting both front line operations and the through life sustainment of the systems.

This important role is responsible for both reactive and proactive support for the Power & Propulsion (P&P) systems, which includes Gas Turbines & Alternators, Diesel Generators, HV & LV Electrical Distribution & Propulsion Systems, Steering & Stabilisers and Platform Management & Control systems, as well as ancillaries such as Lubrication, Cooling and Fuel systems.

As Principle Engineer, you will apply your initiative and expertise in collaboration with our customer and other stakeholders to overcome the engineering challenges in order to sustain and improve system safety and performance.

Principal Responsibilities:
• The proactive management of Systems and Equipment design intent and the underpinning hazard, maintenance, documentation, configuration and System Design Baseline.
• Provision of timely and effective advice and recommendations to support the delivery of safe, capable and available P&P systems.
• Provide through life recommendations on P&P systems performance, availability, design intent, configuration, obsolescence and safety.
• Provide guidance and direction to assigned Senior Engineers, Engineers and Technical Services team to deliver P&P outputs.
• Work closely with Project Managers and Key Support Partners to set requirements, plan, control and deliver emergent work.
• Provide proactive support to our Customer, working collaboratively with other stakeholders.
• Apply a Systems approach to ensure integration with other systems and overall platform capability.
• As well as working for the UK’s leading naval support business, we will also provide you with the training, support and benefits that you would expect from a global company.

What do I need to do the role?
 We are looking for a driven individual who wants to make a positive impact in improving the performance of these systems, which are vital to Royal Navy operations. You will be a strong communicator, able to build collaborative relationships with senior customers and stakeholders to positive effect.

You will champion high performance, challenging the status quo. A competent people manager and an effective problem solver, you are able to balance theoretical assessments with pragmatic solutions and trade the competing demands of urgent reactive support with the progression of through life improvements.

Ideally, you will be a Chartered Engineer with proven experience in technical leadership roles supporting complex assets. You will have demonstrable experience in power and propulsion systems and, desirably, engineering management in the maritime domain.

In return for your skill and passion, you’ll get:
• Flexible working
• Autonomy to perform the role.
• The opportunity to make a real impact, partnering on an ambitious culture transformation programme within Babcock’s’ fastest growing business unit.

As well as:
• Holiday entitlement: 25 days, plus bank holidays;
• Pension scheme with employee pension contributions matched up to 8% of salary, with life assurance;
• Our Babcock Rewards Platform allows you to choose from a range of benefits that best meet your needs, including: critical illness insurance, travel insurance, healthcare cash plan, dental insurance, childcare vouchers, bike scheme, shopping offers and discounts
• Employee Share Plan;
• Free, independent employee assistance programme, offering confidential information, support and counselling, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year;
• Professional memberships, personal development training and opportunities;
