About the role

The engineering function within the ‘programmes and production’ business unit within Babcock DST is undergoing a reorganisation to further improve its efficiency and effectiveness.  To maximise the value that we can realise from the skills and creativity of our people, we are looking to bring people together into a number of groups, with each group focused on a particular engineering domain.  This will allow people with similar skills and activities to be better connected, sharing and growing best practice, and supporting each other with their knowledge, experience and skills.


The Role

The role of Engineering Manager – Electrical, Electronic and Software is an engineering functional and technical leadership role reporting to the ‘Head of Engineering – Submarines’.



The role carries with it the responsibility and accountability for the managerial and technical leadership of the engineering domain and its people, ensuring that we have the right people with the right skills to deliver our projects to time, cost and quality.


Responsibilities includes:

  • Development of domain skills and competence levels,
  • Management of domain recruitment, resource levels and operational deployment,
  • Development and curation of domain policies, methods, tools, learning from experience, best practice and standards

What do I need to do the role?

  • Proven technical team leadership
  • Demonstrable experience of driving the development of technical staff
  • Knowledge of Electronic Engineering (Analogue and Digital), and Embedded Software, including PLC’s and HMI’s
  • Knowledge of control system development
  • Knowledge of high integrity systems
  • HNC I Degree qualified in a relevant subject, or similar equivalent qualifications and experience
  • Experience of team management and technical leadership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A proven positive attitude and work ethic with a desire to learn new skills, work safely, develop others and drive continuous improvement
  • Has achieved or is demonstrably working towards chartered or incorporated engineer status from a recognised engineering institution
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to hold UK Security Clearance

What else do I need to know?
