The role
As a Combat Design Change Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Focused on enabling insertion of new and ever evolving combat capability to submarine platforms, ensuring Babcock applies its unrivalled technology insertion experience to new designs and prepares its capabilities for the ever-increasing complexity of these systems. 


Day-to-day, you’ll manage a team focussed on improving combat systems design change management optimisation and assurance of capability insertion to time, cost and quality.


  • Liaise with MoD/Original Equipment Manufacturer to obtain key equipment information/details enabling engineering and planning decisions to be made to optimise work scope/design change
  • Identify and capture new work and promote cross business liaison, engaging as required with customers to develop and agree unambiguous statement of requirements
  • Develop a common and consistent approach to the tracking, management, and progress of design changes to ensure certainty of delivery
  • Support design change maturity assessments and advise on an appropriate fit opportunity/roll out strategy 


This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.


Essential experience of the Combat Design Change Manager:

  • Experience of managing and producing design change documentation.
  • Experience and knowledge of naval platform / system / equipment safety, design, operation and support management of combat systems 
  • Experience and knowledge of management in a project, operations, approval or authorisation environment
  • Experience and knowledge of working within an engineering lifecycle role within the Submarine Support Enterprise
  • Experience and knowledge of the MoD organisation and procurement processes.
  • Experience of working in a regulated industry with a wide and diverse stakeholder group 


Qualifications for the Combat Design Change Manager:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering-based discipline or HND with significant demonstrable experience. 
  • Member of relevant professional engineering bodies or in the process of applying.


Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
