The Pre-Contract Commercial Manager is based within our Babcock Rail business area.

The role


The difference our new Pre-Contract Commercial Manager – Rail will make
As the Pre-Contract Commercial Manager – Rail, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary.  Acting as the commercial lead for Company bids, developing and implementing commercial solutions that achieve both Client and Company outcomes whilst always taking cognisance of all Company policies, procedures and delegated authorities.


Day to day, you’ll be a senior member of the commercial team, who will contribute to the development, improvement, and implementation of effective commercial controls and strategy within the business. You will also be the commercial lead for Company bids with a particular emphasis on developing innovative and competitive commercial solutions, as well as participating and contributing in client workshops and other tender related events.  Leading commercial negotiations with the client, you will also have responsibility for contributing to the presentation of commercial solutions to the Company as part of the gated bid winning process.

Essential experience

•    Ideally suited to an individual with a commercial background in construction
•    Relevant degree
•    Member of an appropriate professional body
•    Understanding of standard forms of contract (e.g. NEC3/4, ICC, FIDIC etc.)
•    Comfortable negotiating terms and conditions and commercial solutions
•    Experience working in a bid winning environment and to tight timescales/deadlines
