Babcock’s Rail division is a leading engineering company within the rail infrastructure market supporting key rail industry customers providing a safe, reliable and efficient rail network across the UK and Northern Ireland. Babcock’s Rail division has recently secured a major project to deliver Translink’s track and signalling and telecoms framework contracts which has facilitated exciting new opportunities for talented individuals to join our project delivery teams at our Derry~Londonderry and Belfast office.


Working as an Apprentice specialising in either Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering you will gain academic qualifications and professional experience. You will work closely with our experienced project staff and learn about delivering successful projects whilst operating to high safety standards. You will attend training courses and gain competence through a detailed personal development programme which will deliver underpinning knowledge and understanding in the job role to allow you to meet the requirements of the appropriate industry recognised certification schemes.


Educated to grade C or above in GCSE in a minimum of 5 subjects which must include Maths, Physics and English, you will be enthusiastic, motivated with good communications skills and able demonstrate clear potential to continuously grow and develop your skills and career at Babcock. You will be required to work as part of a team working both day and night shifts including weekend, indoors and outdoors, at all times and in all weathers. You will also work on or near railway lines and have the ability to work on your own initiative. Comprehensive off the job training will be given in track safety and the other skills necessary in carrying out this role. You will be required to have a good level of physical fitness and therefore you will attend a medical with our Occupational Health provider to ensure you meet the standard for working in a safety critical role. During this time you will earn a competitive apprentice wage and gain hands-on technical experience in the work place.
