Workshop Operations Manager

Working with Air New Zealand as its trusted asset management partner, Babcock is delivering a customised and innovative asset management solution to drive reliability and efficiency improvements of equipment and provide significant long-term capability and cost benefits.

We are currently seeking an experienced Workshop/Operations Manager to join our team based at Auckland Airport. This is a hands-on position which will see you lead a team of mechanics and administrative support staff in order to deliver a high standard of maintenance and repair services to our customers. You will be a true leader who can drive a positive health and safety culture and lead by example.


Key responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Practicing, promoting and leading Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
  • Providing supervision and supportive leadership to the repairs and maintenance workforce, the Leading Hands and contractors working on site.
  • Ensuring all maintenance and repair work performed meets the original equipment manufacturer’s recommendations in line with local legislation, Babcock standards and industry best practice;
  • Providing the necessary technical support and information to the Maintenance Planner / Scheduler;
  • Ensuring all maintenance and repair tasks are completed by your team efficiently, closed and finalised accurately within the maintenance management system with all labour, services and parts assigned;
  • Working collaboratively with the Fleet Manager and Maintenance Administrator by completing administration tasks accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Ensuring all defects are assessed, and a root cause failure analysis is performed for all repairs;
  • Customer engagement to provide feedback on planned maintenance activity and updates of repairs.


About you:

You will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar supervisory or management role with

comprehensive technical knowledge of Heavy Vehicle and Mobile Equipment maintenance and repair management. You have experience with IFS Asset Management Tool software or a similar asset life cycle costing / computerised asset maintenance and repair management system. You have advanced computer literacy, along with a very high level of general aptitude and an impeccable level of attention to detail. You can lead and work effectively as part of a team to achieve desired results and have an understanding of condition monitoring principles. OEM / dealer experience would be a distinct advantage. This position needs a strong team leader who can coach, mentor and motivate both the frontline and backend teams while also being prepared to roll up their sleeves and get involved when required. You will need to have a strong work ethic, great communication skills, be thorough & efficient and have excellent time management skills. Being able to work well under deadlines & pressure is essential.
