Mechanical Engineer Technician

About the role

Reporting to Dynamic Survey Team Leader and working on the Devonport Naval Base, the Mechanical Engineer Technician will carry out a range of surveys, trials, tests and inspections in accordance with recognised national and international standards. The test and trials will determine the compliance, functionality, integrity and performance of system, equipment or material.


Key Responsibilities will be to examine and record the physical properties of ship structures, coating systems, materials and components in order to maintain an accurate record of the material state of ships and equipment, capture configuration information and identify material state degradation that may lead to a structure, product, equipment or component or coating system failure.


This will include:

  • Periodic testing of certified items and equipment (Load Testing)
  • Periodic testing of structure and coatings
  • Non-Destructive Testing as part of an ongoing programme of Quality control and verification
  • Provide for health, safety and environmental (HSE) compliance within areas of responsibility


About You:

You will be an experienced Engineer Technician with:

  • Trade or Technical certification in mechanical or structural/fabrication engineering discipline.
  • Practical experience and knowledge of structural engineering and heavy fabrication
  • Recognised qualifications in non-destructive testing and surveying preferably within a marine environment.
  • Ability to produce high quality, accurate and clear standard format survey reports to detail observations and recommendations without ambiguity.
