About the role
Working within the Design Team as an L3 Design Engineer you will lead Engineering Change Proposal (ECPs) for the Design Department within the Centre of Engineering.
You’ll be expected to deliver ECPs within your area of expertise in a timely and efficient manner to schedule and quality and lower complexity of ECP by utilising SME resources outside your area of expertise.
As a L3 Design Engineer you will hold delegated authority and responsibility to check and approve (on behalf of the design authority) technical documentation within your expertise and be responsible for ensuring the quality of documentation leaving the department is at the appropriate level.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead an ECP up to complexity 3 with in the engineer’s area of expertise from project initiation, design development and close out;
- Produce technical detail design drawings for production / installation of project;
- Produce high quality engineering repots (including DMDRA and N3 investigations);
- participate in design reviews and engage subject matter experts across the organisation to ensure the engineering solutions are practical, robust, operable, supportable and fully compliant;
- Responsible for technical checking and approval of documentation and drawings on behalf of the DA;
- Be accountable and own the delivery of ECPs to the schedule determined by the Engineering Team Lead or by the customer;
- Provide support to other Design Engineers within the Design Team, in particular supporting L1 and L2 Engineers.
About you
To be successful in this role you will hold a Bachelor of Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent and ideally six years’ experience working within the marine engineering sector. You will have prior experience working in a multidisciplinary Design office and be experienced in standards and quality systems and the analysis and production of high-quality reports. You will have a good understanding of Quality Assurance processes and be a comprehensive communicator both written and verbal and have effective time management.
Project Management experience or qualifications is not necessary however will be highly regarded, as will knowledge of Marine Class Societies (DNVGL, Lloyd’s Register) and regulatory frameworks applicable to commercial marine vessels including New Zealand and Navy fleets.
