Role Description


As an Electronics Test and Assembly Technician you will be responsible to the project for the repair, modification, test and assembly of electronic communications and multimedia devices.


You will upgrade, modify and replace broken components and screens on a variety of laptops, tablets and cellular communications devices and confidently and accurately dismantle devices, to undertake upgrades and modifications without causing damage or malfunction and rebuild the device so as to be a fully functioning unit.


You will also conduct Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on equipment prior to dispatch, ensuring compliance with regulatory body guidelines and undertake repair and battery replacement to power strip monitoring modules, with responsibility to provide functionality testing and installation for return in to the supply chain.


In addition to this you will be responsible for the disposal of electronic media through its dismantling and destruction by the agreed methodology, maintaining accurate records and updating the Customer’s asset management system. You will also ensure that all related sign off documentation is submitted to the project lead for approval prior to undertaking and on completion of all tasks.


Furthermore, you will maintain a level of competency and familiarity with new technology and devices to ensure the service provided by Babcock remain current. This will include ensuring all items are modified installed and assembled to engineering standards, as dictated by professional bodies, ensuring best practice is employed in all activities.


In your role you will also develop a working practices aide memoire and maintain it, to ensure documentation of processes and procedures for all work on the varied electronic devices is accurately captured. You will set up and be responsible for calibration of Babcock and Customer test equipment and electronic devices.


You will also be expected to provide traceability of calibration to national standards in accordance with the equipment manufactures instructions


What do I need to do the role?

To be successful within your role you will possess working knowledge of connecting laptops to control equipment, have strong IT literacy including a strong understanding of maximising the effective utilisation of technology.

You must also possess good interpersonal skills and be able to form good relationships with customers and external groups.

You will also;

  • Have extensive relevant experience with testing electronic equipment and testing and fault finding (to component level).
  • Possess an adequate knowledge of and compliance with the Health and Safety policy and regulations consistent with their responsibilities.
  • Possess or be willing to gain a Safety Training Scheme qualification.
  • City & Guilds 2377-22 Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)


  • Have experience off ensuring unit compliance to test specifications and procedures

What else do I need to know?

You must possess a full UK Driving Licence and be able to obtain and retain DV clearance.
