RAF Valley:
The Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship is based at RAF Valley on Anglesey, which is home to No 4 Flying Training School, responsible for training the UK’s next generation of world-class fighter pilots. Aircrew are also trained at RAF Valley for mountain and maritime operations throughout the world. RAF Valley is also home to the Mountain Rescue Service, the military’s only high readiness, all weather search and rescue, aircraft post-crash management asset.

Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship:  

Whilst on the apprenticeship, you assist in the successful fulfilment of the contracted tasking for Motor Transport Maintenance Section (MTMS).


Ensuring that all activities within the Department are carried out to a high-quality standard and in accordance with the appropriate standards, practices, technical publications, and procedures.  You will also assist in the maintenance and Servicing of the Unit Motor Vehicles with current regulations.


You will gain an understanding of tool control and ensure a high level of housekeeping, cleanliness and security are maintained. On top of this you will assist in the processes of Health & Safety and COSHH standards across the



You will, from time to time, be required to undertake additional tasks and responsibilities of a similar nature in other related locations that fall within your capabilities and experience as directed by Supervisory Staff, Line Manager and Senior Management. You will also maintain training and security clearance currency and undertake training as appropriate in accordance with MoD / RAF & Babcock requirements.

Qualifications you’ll get: 

•    NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Heavy Motor Mechanics (or equivalent)

What you’ll need: 

•    3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above, including English, Maths and a Science or Technology based subject. 
•    Basic understanding of computers and Microsoft Office
